Our Vision
The vision of Corozal Belize Ministries is to change the lives of children, families and a nation through education.
Belize
A perfect place for your family and your church to be involved.
The Country
- Belize is an independent country with approximately 400,000 residents.
- It is about 180 miles long (north to south) and 70 miles wide.
- It is divided into five states; the northern most, and most impoverished, is Corozal with families earning on average less than $10,000 per year – that is only $5,000 USD!.
- English is the primary language in the country and is the language taught in schools. Communication with American visitors is seldom difficult.
- It’s a great place for churches to send mission groups, even youth-oriented trips.
Currency
- The Belizean dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar with $2 BZD = $1 USD. Most places accept either currency, but change is always provided in Belizean currency.
- Credit cards are generally accepted, and ATMs can be found in cities.
Airport and Ground Transport
- Philip Goldson International Airport is located in Belize City. Several carriers have daily flights from the U.S. to Belize.
- The airport is a 1 hour 45-minute drive from Corozal Town, which is in the far north of the country and 25 minutes south of the border with Mexico.
- Several major car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, etc.) are located at the airport. Air taxis and ground transport can be hired. U.S. issued licenses are accepted.
- Local travel and scheduling are supported by Corozal Belize Ministries’ partners living in Corozal or nearby villages.
Accommodations
- American-style hotels are located at the southern end of Corozal just minutes from the city. It is an easy walk into town.
- There are several hotels (Best Western, Hilton, Grand Hotel) a short distance from the airport if an early flight is scheduled.
- Depending on season, the hotels in Corozal typically range in price from $65-100/night (USD).
