Missions Trip Update – Summer 2024

During the last weeks of June, CBM hosted about 30 people from 6 states on a remarkable trip to the Corozal District of Belize! Ranging in age from 11 to 74, we averaged a very young team and we worked much of the time with the students and faculty at several elementary schools. During this trip we were able to accomplish physical work, teach skills, build relationships, and transform lives.

We are so grateful for the prayers and financial support of our faithful donors. These work trips are possible only through the generous donations we receive. We ask for your continued prayers as our leadership makes decisions concerning our future direction in terms of scholarships and work trips. Physical Changes Skills Taught Relationships Built Lives Transformed

Physical Changes

Despite very hot, humid weather punctuated with periods of rain (and even torrential downpours!), the team worked hard at a number of projects:

Our young people worked tirelessly painting the exterior of 3 buildings at 2 separate elementary schools.
Wooden windows more than 12 decades old at San Victor school were replaced with aluminum louvered windows.
Large amounts of debris and trash were removed from a nature trail at Xaibe elementary school.
A house with saplings tied together to form the exterior and with no interior walls was transformed with metal siding, new interior walls, and new/safer electrical wiring.
Large numbers of sports jerseys, almost 100 pairs of flip-flops, and other clothing items donated.
A compound with numerous poorly dressed children were given size specific clothing purchased at the open market in Corozal.

Skills Taught

Multiple volleyball nets were donated to the school along with large numbers of volleyballs and students taught the basics of volleyball.4
Multiple soccer balls donated to the schools and many soccer scrimmages played with our young adults.

Relationships Built

At every school our team spent quality time with the students and faculty, building relationships and finding common ground between cultures based on our Christian faith.
Lunches were always graciously provided by the faculty and community, allowing even more interaction with the people of Belize.
At three elementary schools, the team was entertained with a program by the students and a certificate of appreciation was presented to us! We were shown traditional dress and dances by several students.

Lives Transformed

Each morning, our young adults and children presented a Biblical message and taught songs and dances to all the students.
A Bible study on the Attributes of God was presented to the faculty and administration at three different schools.
Salvation was received by accepting Jesus as Savior!
The people of Belize were very grateful for our service, our donations, and our willingness to spend time with them.
As always, our team’s lives are changed by a more godly world view and the knowledge gained by seeing other cultures. The people in Belize are able to teach us how to be content and joyful without the wealth that we enjoy in the US. They are also able to teach us ingenuity, perseverance, frugality, conservation, generosity, and so many other skills that we who live among abundance tend to ignore.
